What is a Brick Calculator?

A brick calculator determines the total brick count and mortar mix bags needed for masonry walls, brick veneers, and paving projects.

A standard single-skin modular brick wall with 3/8" mortar joints requires approximately 7 standard bricks per square foot.

A standard modular brick measures 3-5/8" deep by 2-1/4" high by 7-5/8" long (or 8" * 4" * 2-2/3" with mortar joints).

Add 5% to 10% for cuts, corners, and job-site breakage.

Approximately 60 to 75 lbs of dry mortar mix is needed per 100 modular bricks.

Single-skin (wythe) is 1 brick thick (~4 inches). Double-skin (cavity or solid) is 2 bricks thick (~9 inches) for load-bearing walls.

Type N mortar is the standard general-purpose mix for exterior above-grade brick masonry.

A stretcher bond exposes the long face of bricks; a header bond exposes the short end face.

Weep holes placed at base courses allow internal condensation and water to escape from the cavity.
